Your ranking is flawed because the sampling sets (the quality of students of those disciplines) are totally different. I means if Electrical Engineering is more popular than Material Engineering, those EE students tend to be better and thus graduate faster. You should add the effect of such biased sampling sets to their scores before ranking.

I am currently a junior in computer engineering. When I was in high school, we had math and physics courses, but I didn’t feel adequately prepared when I transitioned to college. In 12th grade, instead of taking pre-calculus as originally planned, I ended up in a TSI Math prep course due to a new program they introduced. Looking back, I should have taken pre-calculus, but I didn’t. However, I’m resilient. Knowing I would be pursuing a pre-engineering degree in college, I took it upon myself to study diligently. I took notes from textbooks and worked through problems in college algebra and topics from Calculus 1. This preparation really paid off when I eventually took those courses; without it, I likely would have struggled more or needed to repeat classes. Interestingly, I’ve always done well in chemistry and physics, I read outside of classroom more.

My father was an E.E. who worked on projects as varied as the Manhattan, the Blackbird, the Hustler, and Chief Ground Systems Engineer on the TITAN ICBM. He later ran a substantial corporation, which specialized in designing and building instrumentation devices for what let's just call "The Military-Industrial-Complex". Of course this meant that I was forced into studying "Engineering" (at UCLA) but that program required that I was thrown into Chemistry for the Chem majors; Math for the Math majors, Physics for the Physics Major's and a smorgasbord of Engineering discipline courses relating to all of these all simultaneously. It amounted to one HELL of a lot of UNITS, not a one of which could I describe as 'easy'. Along the way, however, I did develop an affinity for Plasma Physics----but then came the UCLA Riot's, topped off with my being DRAFTED into the Army during the VN War, or rather "Armed Conflict" :/ Needless to say, when I got back, my previous priorities and assessments of 'life' choices, suddenly seemed hollow and misplaced. A slew of other investigations into other alternatives took place, until having 'retired' from 5 entirely unrelated professions , my father having passed, (Yes, I'm now OLD) I managed a sixth 'career' in the only field I had ever really wanted to do, but had been discouraged from pursuing not only by my father, but by the fact that 'life happens' and you either adapt or not. You see, in Kindergarten, for 'Show and Tell', I used to SING something from the 'top ten' each week;) I tell you all of this because it might prove worthwhile, to take a moment, close your eyes, picture yourself on your deathbed (hopefully years from now:) and while thinking back over your life, ask yourself if you will at that moment , be happy with the path/paths upon which you are about to embark. I would strongly counsel that you take your assessment into account sooner, as opposed to later. Good luck, and Good fortune to you all. I wish you well.

Why single out the math requirements as being a key difficulty factor? Most engineering students are strong in math, and most engineering courses are just glorified math courses anyway. I can't imagine any degree being harder than the EE but the Aeronautical guys are always bragging about how tough their courses are.

Hi, Thanks for sharing the video. I have a combination of degrees. Environmental Engineering, Environmental Biology and Health and Safety, Butttttt I also had to take certification courses for Construction and General Industry as well as OSHA, EPA and other regulatory classes. Not saying those others aren't hard but it felt like a lifetime to achieve all those. My degrees actually fall under the Environmental Biology and the others at the time I started college fell under that one. So in all reality it is the same degree just labeled differently. What I want to do is encourage everyone to not give up, it doesn't matter how old you are or what your situation is, one class at a time and you'll get there. Blessings and thanks for sharing.

I think duration to graduate 4Y is too limited, needs more input. For example M.E. more rigorous then EE, biomed, computer is silly (my friends who take double mech/elec eng degree agree with that). Likewise if many more students gravitate to ME, that *may* tend to lengthen the duration. (Why? I dont know but thats what statisticians call confounding factors. Ignore them at your peril. For example do some who cant make it thru calcII witch to ME as the best opportunity for challenged students? Or does a larger pool maybe increase the possibility of non, academic reasons for interrupting a degree? Like pregnancy, death in immediate family, etc.) I would say definitely consult with a statistician (preferably master's level) before publishing "overarching trends" p.s. I'm a software engineer but dad was an actuary & wife is a biostatistician. So I am exposed to stats frequently.
